The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a very moving story that is written by William Kam Kwamba and Bryan Mealer. AT the start of the book a boy who lived in a very poor country has to have only one meal a day. This is because his villages crops are all dying because they don’t have enough water to keep them damp. It never rains there. One day his dad walked up to the boy and said that we can’t send you to school anymore because we need the money. So one day the boy walked up to the huge library that had been a gift from an American person. As he walked inside he found a book on energy and how to move water. As he opened the book he saw a huge wind turbine. So when he gets home he goes to the junkyard and collects his supplies. As he started building the rest of his village thought he was crazy.  Once he finished it the water started to flow into the crops. I can relate to this story because I love to build things out of scraps. My parents will ask me what I am doing and I simply replied: “I will show you when I am done”. All in all this book is so inspiring and I hope that the whole world can read this.

Wanted: The Perfect Pet

Wanted: The Perfect Pet is a very touching story that I would read again. At the start of the book, a boy named Henry wants the perfect pet. But most of all he wants a dog. So he sends out a flyer. At the same time, a duck is walking along and sees the poster. The duck is very lonely and wants a friend. But the duck does not have big floppy ears and a big wet nose. But he makes himself a surprise. The next day the duck waddles up to Henry’s house and rings the bell. A dog yelled Henry! Henry loved his new dog. But this dog was not very good at fetch. Once his dog was going to get the ball the duck slipped. His floppy ears and wet nose fell off. I am sorry the duck cried a fat tear running down his cheek. Your not a dog said Henry disappointed. But you are a very special duck. Henry told the duck about all his special abilities. In the end, Henry says I think that you are my perfect pet. I can connect to this story because when I was trying out for the long distance team, I did not make it. But they said that I could do the sprinting team. So in a way, the duck tried to be a dog, but in the end, he came out as a good duck.

After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again

After The Fall: How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again is written and illustrated by Dan Santat. It is about Humpty after he fell. When he got put back together he was terrified of heights. He would not sleep on his top bunk bed and would not reach high for the things he loved. He missed seeing the birds up high so he settled for watching them from the ground. One day he was watching the birds a paper airplane flew by which gave him an idea. He then spent all of his time making a special paper airplane that looked like a bird. He went to go and fly it. It flew as nothing could stop it. But he accidentally threw it on top of the wall! He almost walked away but he worked so hard on that bird. So he started climbing the ladder. When he got to the top he was not afraid anymore. Then his egg started to crack and he became a bird. I can relate to this because when I was skateboarding I took a hard fall. Even though I really liked skateboarding I was too afraid of skating again. But my brother talked me into trying it again and I found that I got more comfortable once I did it more. I can also connect that I really like birds but I am afraid of heights so I watch them from the ground. All in all, I think that this is a really pleasant book that I would read again.

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art

The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art it a very touching story about a boy that whats to do something different then what he is expected to do. His aunt gives him an art box that speaks to him. He looks at the colours and hears sounds. He grows up and becomes a lawyer and does what everyone expects him to do. But one night he goes to the symphony. He sees all of the colours zoom before his eyes. He then goes and becomes a painter. He was the first man that created abstract art. I can connect to this because I saw a documentary on the gift of using different senses for different things. For example, you can taste colours. Or you can see sounds. I can also relate to the fact that he always wanted to follow his dream. I have the same kind of thing driving him. All in all this book is very moving and I can relate to it a lot.

There

(There) is a book that is written and illustrated by Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick. This book is very powerful but you really have to dig deep and understand what it is about.  It is about a kid that is thinking about his future and growing up. He asks himself questions about what he will do there when he grows up. But in the end, he decides that he won’t go there today but he will go there tomorrow. I can relate to this book because when I was young I was always really curious and wanted to know what was going to happen. I also was never worried about what would happen in the future. I can relate to another song called Good Old Days. The song is about growing up and what will happen to you when you grow up. I can relate the text to the world because kids all around the world are going through the same thing that the boy in the book is going through. All in all, I think that this book is immeasurable to other books but you need to really understand it.

The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau

The Fantastic Undersea Life of Jacques Cousteau is a very interesting book that is written and illustrated by Dan Yaccarino. It is about a man that explored the ocean and made new inventions that helped him do just that. I can connect to this because the first time I went snorkelling in Maui it was so amazing and bright. I really understand why Jacques Cousteau was so interested in the ocean. I can also relate to this because I read an article about sea flea and how it was made and used. It was really an incredible step for mankind. I can also relate that I saw how the first scuba suit was made. These scuba suits are used all around the world and are still used to this day. All in all, I think that I learned a lot this book and would read it again.Image result for the fantastic undersea life of jacques cousteau

Enemy Pie

Enemy Pie is a very cool book written by Derek Munson. The book is about a boy that is “enemies” with another boy. The boy told his father and the father said that he would make Enemy Pie. But his dad said it would only work if he spent a whole day with his enemy. So the next day he invited his enemy over and started to play with him as he played with him he realized that he was not so bad. But when they had dinner the pie was fine. The dad had made his son and the other boy friends. I can connect with my life because I thought I did not like someone in my grade. So my mom told me to have him over and see what he is like. It turns out he was not that bad. I can relate a second time because I heard a story called Wonder. In the story, the main character’s face is messed up. But he finds a friend that thinks that he looks scary at first but then when they get to know him they become best friends. I can relate a third time because in the world people just assume people are bad or scary even though you have not even met them. I can relate a fourth time because I watched a movie called the Hate You Give. People bully her just because she is black. They have not gotten to know her. All in all, I think that this story can be related to my life in many ways.

The Fish Who Could Wish

The Fish Who Could Wish is a very short book that was written by John Bush. The theme of wishing is an exciting one, especially when the children realize that wishes are limitless and they can have some fun describing and writing about them.  Even better when wishes become directed to resolving problems in the world. There was once a fish that loved to wish. He wished for a castle, car, horse, and a Spanish Guitar. Once, when he wished he could go out for a ski. So it snowed for a week under the sea. He wished he could fly so he flew around the world two times in one night. He wished that when the sharks came hunting he could turn to small to eat. To teach the sharks a lesson he would turn into a shark and them into fish. He wished himself into all kinds of shapes. He wished for everything but not to be wise. One day, just for fun that silly old fish wished the silliest wish he could wish. He wished that he could be a normal fish. But normal fish would not wish. So that was his last wish. I think that the message in this book is that you should not wish your life away. I think that this book should be directed to children from the ages of 5-8. All in all, it may be a silly story but it still has a very powerful message.Image result for the fish who could wish

Kindness#5

Sebastian M was trying to put on his arm cast and looked like he was struggling. I walked over and put it over his shoulder and did it up. I did this because Sebastian had a broken arm and I felt bad. It made me feel like I was really helping someone and that they would not need to worry.

Kindness #4

When Ridgeview had a volleyball game at Westcott I noticed that Ronan did not have a ride. I asked him if he wanted to come with me and my dad. He said yes. I did this because Ronan is my friend and I know that if I were in the same situation he would do the same to me. It made me feel proud that I was taking my friend to volleyball.
